Imagine the potty just... not being a thing anymore.

Your toddler heads there on their own. No negotiating, no asking 100 times, and no praying they don’t have an accident every time you leave hte house. You finally trust the plan (instead of second-guessing every move).

This is what you learn inside the Rooted Potty Method.

That’s what I will help you achieve inside the Rooted Potty Method!

“Jessica also has a toolbox full of ideas and wisdom for every component of potty training that your child might be struggling with (ie motivation, sensory issues, fear, etc.). Her support kept me going when I would have given up on my own!”

-Mom of 3 year-old boy

“Having Jessica’s plan in my back pocket made me confident we were doing the right thing, and she picked up on the fact that I wasn’t nervous and believed she could do it!”

-Mom of 3.5 year-old girl

“My son willingly initiates going pee on the potty now and keeps having more and more success with poop.  Most importantly, his mental block towards potty training has dissipated and he is proud of his progress and the fact that he no longer wears diapers!”

-Mom of 3 year-old boy (second potty training attempt)

The Rooted Potty Method is for you if:

  • Your child is between 12 months - 4+ years old

  • You feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed out about potty training

  • You want a realistic, OT-backed potty training plan that actually works (but right now that feels way easier said than done!)

  • You have never tried potty training before OR you have tried in the past and it didn’t go well

  • You’re fed up with prompting your toddler to "go potty" 100 times a day (and the inevitable power struggle that comes with it each time)

  • You’re past the initial potty training stage but still struggling with things like frequent accidents, potty refusal, or poop problems

  • You just want all things potty to just be less stressful so you can focus on spending your days doing what you actually WANT to be doing

Mom of 3 year-old boy:

“I think this format is what is missing from all the parenting resources out there! The individualized support and community of other people with similar-aged kids going through the same thing is a MAJOR help.”

Why I created the Rooted Potty Method

Potty training doesn’t have to break you. Early in my OT career working in schools and early intervention, I saw the same pattern over and over. Parents were desperate for potty training help. Not because they weren’t trying, but because they had no clear place to start. Everyone was giving different advice, and much of it didn’t actually work in real life with a toddler.

That experience pushed me to dig deeper into the developmental, behavioral, and sensory components of potty training so I could better support the families I was working with.

Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds of families move from constant accidents, resistance, and frustration to confidently guiding their child to learn to use the potty using a clear, realistic plan.

That work became the foundation of what I now teach inside the Rooted Potty Method.

The Rooted Potty Method focuses on the skills kids actually need for potty training success, including:

  • body awareness

  • sensory processing

  • consistent routines

  • interoception (your child’s ability to recognize when their body needs to go)

When you understand these pieces, potty training becomes much less about pressure, rewards, or guesswork and much more about teaching your child the skills they need to become an independent potty user.

Inside the program, I walk you step-by-step through the Rooted Potty Method so you know exactly how to support your child in learning to use the potty — so you don’t have to piece it all together from Google searches, TikTok videos, your mother-in-law, or unsolicited advice on the internet. I can’t wait to help you through it!

Now let’s get your toddler out of diapers without losing your mind 😝

“All in all, I can’t believe how well this has gone. Thank you so much for your guidance! The program was great and I really love your even-keeled approach.”

-Mom of 2.5 year-old boy

The hands-on support is SO valuable! Having someone to bounce the ‘what about this’ off is amazing!

-Mom of 3.5 year-old girl

I just want to say thank you!🙏🏼 I would not have made it through the weekend without all the support! It was a GAME-CHANGER for me in attempting training again, which I think in turn was a game-changer for my daughter. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

-Mom of 3 year-old girl (third potty training attempt!)

FAQs:

Is the Rooted Potty Method a 3-day method?

  • No… with a little bit of yes? Potty training is a complex developmental skill that takes longer than 3 days to master. XXXX

Does it work for a child in daycare?

  • Yes! I recommend staying close to home during the official “Bye-Bye Diapers” weekend, but otherwise, there is no problem with your child being in full-time childcare - in fact, most of the kids are! (It's also okay if your child is not.)

Is the method appropriate for my child with special needs or developmental delays?

  • Most likely, yes, but it depends. Your child does not need to be fully talking to learn how to potty-train. However, with other needs or delays, it really varies since every child is so different. I have years of experience as a pediatric OT teaching children of various abilities how to use the toilet. If this applies to you, please email me at jessica@rootedinroutine.com and we can chat further!

We’ve tried potty training in the past and failed. Will this work for us?

  • XXX

What if we already potty trained but are still struggling with certain things (like accidents, withholding, poop, nighttime, etc)?

  • XXX

My child is VERY strong-willed. How will this ever work?!

  • To be blunt, it's rare to meet a toddler who is not strong-willed… most toddlers are! They also tend to be opinionated and don't like to be told what to do : ) With my background in child development, I help you work with your child's natural tendencies and preference for control, while also holding certain new boundaries, to find a happy middle ground that works.

The OT Behind the Rooted Potty Method

Jessica Irwin is a pediatric occupational therapist, childhood routine expert, mom of two boys, and the founder of Rooted in Routine — a virtual parenting education platform helping parents build simple, realistic routines that actually work in real life with real toddlers.

With over 10 years experience working in schools, daycares, early intervention, and private clinics, she kept seeing that parents were desperate for realistic potty training guidance, but the advice out there was all over the place and rarely worked in practice.

That frustration pushed her to dig deeper into the developmental, behavioral, and sensory aspects of potty training, and over the years, she's helped hundreds of families get their kids potty trained using her signature routines-based potty training method.

She now helps parents all over the world potty train their children inside The Rooted Potty Method.

Once your child learns to use the potty, they’ll do it every single day for the rest of their life. And she wants to help you get there as smoothly, quickly, and stress-free as possible!
